Teaching Materials Available for Download - Snapshots from Japan: The Lives of Seven Japanese High School Students

March 9, 2005

The Center for Global Partnership (CGP) is pleased to announce the publication of Snapshots from Japan: The Lives of Seven Japanese High School Students, curriculum materials developed primarily for use in middle and junior high school social studies classes. CGP welcomes all interested educators to download them for free.

Developed in collaboration with the University of Colorado at Boulder, Program for Teaching East Asia, Snapshots from Japan features lesson plans that build upon The Japan Forum's instructional kit entitled Deai: The Lives of Seven Japanese High School Students, which uses firsthand photo essays to introduce the lives of seven diverse Japanese students. The new lesson plans aim to develop a range of data analysis, thinking, and geographic skills and to enhance students' understanding of Japan by placing the lives of the Japanese students in the larger context of contemporary Japanese society and culture.

The volume is co-authored by Mary Hammond Bernson, Kathleen Woods Masalski, Lynn S. Parisi, and Linda S. Wojtan.
