“Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki 1945-2015" Workshop

From June 28 to July 5, the Japan Studies Association led a faculty development workshop consisting of 30 educators in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The participants met with Japanese experts through a series of round-table discussions and plenary lectures aimed at the exploration of various issues surrounding the atomic bombings .

In partnership with the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, the Hiroshima Peace Institute, and the Nagasaki Peace Promotion Office, JSA coordinates visit to the Radiation Effects Research Foundation and the Hiroshima City University, the workshop as a whole involved more than 30 Japanese speakers, volunteer guides, and students. The presentations and experiences in Japan led the U.S. participants to realize anew the unique suffering of August 1945 and to understand the significant efforts of Japanese, Americans, and citizens from around the world to move toward sustainable and equitable peace.
