Greetings from Our New Director Kazuaki Kubo

16-May-2011
Dear Friends of the Japan Foundation:

It gives me great pleasure to greet you as the new representative of the Japan Foundation.

I have a special fondness for and attachment to the United States as it was the first foreign country I visited when I came and stayed as a student many years ago. Later, after joining the Japan Foundation, I had many opportunities in Japan to work with American counterparts. Most recently, I had the distinct honor to work for more than three years as the Consul General of Japan in Denver before returning to Japan this past March.

Now, once again back with the Japan Foundation and this time in the capitol of the world, I feel like I am coming back home. I am hoping to meet old friends again while making many new friends along the way.

The world’s situation is changing rapidly and as such, so is the significance of cultural exchange. During my tenure here, I hope to have the opportunity to open new horizons that will ultimately result in the deepening of mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and Japan.
